The disciples/apostles are looking for a new apostle. This story has a baby bird looking for his mother, just like the apostle’s were looking for another to join them. It’s also a lovely Mother’s Day read. Point out how inappropriate the alternatives are for the baby bird.

I couldn’t find any children’s version of this reading, which Saddened me. It is such an important idea for children to know that even Jesus prayed, and he prayed for his friends. Explain this to your child as the Gospel is read this week.
