ALL SAINT’S DAY: ideas to help you share today’s RCL readings with even the youngest household members using things you have at home.

Today is a special day in the church calender and as such the colours we use today are white (according to the Uniting Church in Australia) if this colour choice causes you a problem you might like to use Gold or as the Church of England are using Red.

If you are worshipping at home, you might like to make a small focus area, using your choice of colour, a candle( I prefer battery operated ones when children are involed), and any other items that help you concentrate your thoughts on God.

START WITH: THE LORDS PRAYER IN ACTIONS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOugEQpcc_k OR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMjm93ylL2w

Or if you are looking for a more contemplative version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NuUo-igXDU&fbclid=IwAR2FasYCU-9mP1PaLQDjweXyhyUnJutt4J28KycjzeUEttWSesipX2jmJxE

Or if you are participating in an on-line service that does not cater for all ages, you might want to slot it in when the congregation says The Lords Prayer. If you are able to worship in person, but children are not catered for in the service, this ideas can be used by your children in a face to cace service.

If you are leading a congregation, please feel free to share these ideas with members of your congregation. ( an acknowledement of authorship would be appreciated)

READ:

I will bless the Lord all the time!
We’ll never stop praising our God!
Magnify the Lord with me.
Together we’ll lift his name high.
Taste and see – the Lord is good!
Relax and rejoice – you are safe in him.
When trouble comes, cry out to God.
He is always around you, protecting you.

YEAR A: After Epiphany 4: Ideas to help 3’s and under relate to this weeks RCL readings

Some congregations may be using the Candlemas readings this  week.

If possible check with the congregation you will be worshipping with. You will find ideas for Candelmas here https://thecrossinmybackyard.wordpress.com/2020/01/30/candelmas-year-a-ideas-to-help-3s-and-under-relate-to-this-weeks-rcl-readings/

You don’t have to stop attending worship with your children just because the school term has begun. You can choose to worship together instead of attending Sunday school. Work out what is important to your family, is it shared worship or learning about Bible Stories?

If you continue to worship with your child you can find some ideas here https://wordpress.com/post/thecrossinmybackyard.wordpress.com/910 as to where to sit and what to bring.

If you are a small congregation without a Child and Family Minister have an area available near the front for parents/guardians to worship with their children, and print off this information so that it is readily available or direct them to this site. Set up an area with books and toys in it that will enhance their spiritual experience. (Ie not just toys for “keeping them quiet”).Spiritual Delights or Toy Box tat! andMake the books appealing

If you would like these ideas as a PDF file sent to you each week, please contact me.

PSALM 15

Psalm 15: Truth telling

If you want to walk tall in the ways of the Lord
you have to hold on to what matters the most.
The truth is the truth, there’s no getting round it,
the truth can’t be twisted, invented or fudged.
If you want to be trusted, admired and respected
then do what is right and say what is true.
